This magnificent tree never fails to bloom in stunning colour. In Kerala, India, the Royal Poinciana is known as kaalvarippoo, the Flower of Calvary. The Saint Thomas Christians of Kerala believe that a small Poinciana tree stood near to Christ’s Cross at Calvary and the blooms took their colour from his blood that was shed over it.
